When you have invested in your electronic dog collar for your dog or dogs, you want to be sure that you take the time for proper care, cleaning and storage of the system. By following these tips, you will be able to create a much longer life for your system.

The first thing that you want to do to care for your dog training system is to check the points on the transmitter to make sure they are tight. On some systems, the antenna is attached to the transmitter permanently, so it is not necessary to check for tightness. On other systems, the antenna is affixed to the transmitter by you, so you will want to make sure that it is screwed tightly to the system. A loose antenna will make your signals go haywire or not send them at all. Check this as you are hunting periodically to make sure the system is working properly.

Check the beeper periodically. This can get dirty and can cause the beeper not to work. You will only want to wash the beeper with water and not use any cleaning solutions, although a mild detergent is fine. If the receiver is not waterproof, clean it thoroughly with a damp cloth. You can use a cotton swap to clear away any debris from the inside of the beeper, but be careful not to damage any of the elements. The beeper battery is a 9 volt battery and can be replaced when needed. Replacing the battery is simply - you just need a Phillips screwdriver and you can remove the battery cover and replace the battery when needed. If you see the transmitter light beeping red all of the time, it is time for a new beeper battery.

The receiver batteries can be recharged and should be done so using the wall mount for the AC outlet that comes with the product. Even when not in use, you should recharge these batteries every four months to get the maximum life out of them

Test the system periodically to make sure that everything is working when the training collar is not on the dog. It is a good idea to do this before taking your dog on the field. The batteries should be fresh or charged and all systems should be working properly.

Always make sure the cradle that recharges the receiver battery is clean and in good condition. Never place a wet receiver into the cradle as it is not water proof. You should wipe the connections in the cradle that recharge the batteries with a clean cloth.

Storage of the unit should never be in a hot area. The unit should be stored in room temperature in a place that is clean and free from dirt and debris. It is a good idea to get a case to store the unit in so that you can keep it ready for the next hunting season. If you are out on the field, do not store the unit on the dashboard of your car as this can cause stress on the batteries and unit and lessen the life and effectiveness of your dog training system. The unit should be kept at room temperature when not in use.
